Those who know me, know I LOVE ketchup. At restaurants, I always ask for extra ketchup to go with my fries and burger. And at McDonald’s, that single handful of ketchup packets won’t cut it. Give me another handful, please!
Heck I even put ketchup on my steaks…at a high end restaurant. *gasp*
Needless to say, every trip to Canada always required a visit to the supermarket for my fix of ketchup flavored potato chips—and of course an extra few bags for the hand carried suitcase home. Why can’t they sell this in the states???
Well, I’m over the moon to report that I found Ketchup flavored sprinkles at Trader Joe’s!!! Clearly I’m not the only one with a love affair with ketchup! Now I can make my own ketchup potato chips at home.
Hooray!!!
Ok, here’s the recipe…does this even need a recipe?!
Recipe: Go buy a jar of Trader Joe’s Ketchup flavored Sprinkles plus a can of Plain Pringles
Place Pringles on plate, concave side up. Sprinkle ketchup flavored sprinkles generously over each chip. That’s it! It tastes the best when the concave side of the chip hits your tongue first. But experiment for yourself! Ha ha!
FYI: use the ketchup flavored sprinkles within a few weeks of opening the jar, because this seasoning “cakes” over and forms a solid brick clump once it’s been opened and moisture from the air gets in. I think this is because the list of ingredients of the ketchup sprinkles doesn’t include an anticaking agent. The ingredients lists “tomato powder, sugar, kosher salt, vinegar powder, rice concentrate, onion powder, garlic powder.” If it does clump up prior to you finishing the jar of ketchup sprinkles, you can try digging it out of the jar and placing the large clump in a spice grinder, but it was really tough to even get the brick to break into chunks so they would come out of the jar. So it’s best to try to finish the whole jar within a few weeks of opening. So go ahead and sprinkle the seasoning on with a heavy hand! Yep, I got your back, ketchup lover.
